We are excited to announce that Smart Water Heat will soon have a new name! Over the last several months, the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) conducted research on consumer perceptions and motivations for the purchase of heat pump water heaters (HPWHs). We still plan to bring you the same great HPWH information and market developments, but with a new name that reflects the evolving market. Stay tuned for an unveiling in August with the launch of a refreshed website and updated resources. Read on for the latest HPWH updates from the past quarter.

New GE Tier 3 GeoSpring

Key product details include:

  • Tier 2 qualified; Tier 3 qualified in CCE mode
  • Available in 50- and 80-gallon sizes

2015 GE Promotion Update

2015 Federal Standards Update

Big changes to federal water heater standards took effect on April 16, 2015 with minimum standards increasing to reduce energy waste and save customers money. New requirements for electric water heaters require tanks larger than 55 gallons to use heat pump technology. Learn more about these new electric water heater federal standards here.
